The business community, especially Telecommunications Providers of all stripes, should look upon the Unviersal Service Fund from the point of view that it will ultimately benefit the funders. To increase the knowledge and productivity of the high school and college graduate; to improve work skills or to add new skills for the person now working; and to improve the ability for people to become more sophisticated in their knowledge of society makes a better workplace since it is then populated by more intelligent people makes the our nation stronger. As telecommunications companies attempt to find a comfortable bottom-line contribution amount, with an eye towards its net profit justifying the least amount contributed, where does that myopic view lead the nation? The two conflicting views of "serving the public" clash and recent experience tends to the notion that business will prevail. But at what cost to them, and to us?
