Friends who are part of the "collaboration" list:

Below I have posted all the names of the people on the collaboration
group. I would like to push for a short introduction from each of you --
with a line or two about your best experience at (or your thoughts on)
using networking tools for collaboration.

For example: My name is Bill Wright and I'm with a nonprofit, ITC, that
is working with schools in China and Vietnam, as well as carrying out a
policy study (funded by NIE) that helps rural schools and communities have
affordable access to the NII (See http://www/itc.org/aaron/).

My best experience at using networking tools for collaboration has been
with the education and library coalition (EdLiNC) here in Washington (see
http://www.itc.org/edlinc/). This diverse coalition of over 35 education
and library groups has used listservs and the web as powerful tools to work
together during a long legislative and regulatory process in Washington.
The results: Provisions for schools and libraries in the
Telecommunications Act of 1996 -- and a joint board recommendation that
universal service should include $2.25 billion/year as discounts for
advanced telecommunications for schools and libraries. (The final decision
by the FCC is May 8th.)

The tools have been no more sophisticated than a listserv and web site,
but we are using these tools to work for education in amazing ways at the
national level.

I'm also interested in collaborative work among schools around the globe
such as the project described at http://www.itc.org/wcl/cfp.html.
Of course many other groups have put together collaborative efforts like the
global online project described here.

OK, now who are *you* and what has been your best experience at using
networking tools for collaboration?

Please send your intro as e-mail to collaboration@info-ren.pitt.edu
