Reformatting the Hard Disk & Installing MS-DOS 6.22

Warning!: Following this procedure and reformatting the hard disk will erase all data, files and software on your hard. Please make sure that this is truly how you wish to proceed and, assuming you do, make sure that you have all the files and software you need on disk, so that you can restore them to your hard disk, once it has been reformatted.


  1. Insert the MS-DOS 6.22 Disk #1 into the floppy drive and press the <CTRL>, <ALT>, and <DEL> buttons simulatenously. This will reboot the computer and automatically enter the DOS set-up screen.
  2. Press the F3 button twice to exit set-up and enter the DOS prompt
  3. Type format c: /s and press Return. This will format the hard disk. You will be shown an indicator that shows the progress of the hard disk formatting.
  4. When the formatting is complete, restart the computer (with Disk #1 of MS-DOS still inside your floppy disk drive) by pressing the <CTRL>, <ALT>, and <DEL> buttons simulatenously. This will reboot the computer and automatically enter the DOS set-up screen.
  5. Press Return to continue the DOS installation
  6. Highlight Continue and replace the current version of DOS, then press Return
  7. Press Return at the next two prompts
  8. Insert MS-DOS 6.22 Disks #2 and #3 when prompted
  9. Remove the floppy disk from the disk drive and press Return twice to restart the computer. Your computer will now restart in DOS, with nothing but the DOS system files on your computer.
