Installing a DEC
Etherworks ISA DE205 Ethernet Card
These instructions are for the hardware
installation of an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) into a
PC and should be done prior to configuring the ethernet card, or setting up the networking components in
Windows.
- Unplug all cables and connectors from the CPU (power,
monitor, printer, keyboard, etc.)
- Extract the screws from the case and remove the cover
- Remove the external scover to expose an empty ISA bus
slot
- Using extreme care to avoid damage to sensitive
electronic parts, proceed with the following (It is
advisable to use a properly grounded wrist strap before
touching any highly sensitive electronic components such
as an ethernet card. If no grounding strap is available,
be sure to at least touch both of your hands to the metal
frame of the computer to ground yourself): Holding the
ethernet card by the edge and avoiding contact with the
card's connectors or components, carefully install the
ethernet card in an empty ISA bus slot by slightly
rocking back and forth the card while exerting slight
downward pressure. Seat the card completely in the slot
cover but do not force it.
- Replace the slot cover screw removed when removing the
slot cover and use the screw to hold the ethernet card in
place
- Replace the cover on the case and install all screws
- Reconnect the removed connectors and cables to their
original locations
- Follow the instructions for Configuring
a DEC Etherworks Ethernet Card
