Configuring a DEC Etherworks Ethernet Card

Note: These instructions are for the hardware installation of an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) into a PC and should be done prior to setting up the networking components in Windows.


  1. Exit Windows and go to the DOS prompt
  2. Insert the "Etherworks Ethernet Card" drivers disk into Drive A:
  3. Type "a:" and then Return to switch to the a: drive
  4. Type "nicsetup" and then Return to start the ethernet card's setup and configuration program
  5. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Change/View Permanent Settings"
  6. Using the "Tab" key to move between fields and the spacebar to change values, change the following settings to match: I/O Port Address: 280, IRQ: 10, Memory Base Address: D0000, Memory Mode Setting: 32k
  7. Select Save and click on OK when reminded to shut off the computer
  8. Select "Exit" from the "File" menu
  9. When you are at the DOS prompt, turn off the computer. Your Ethernet card should now be ready to be configured in Windows for Workgroups 3.11
