Process Models
A major goal of CK:P is the
institutionalization of networking technology in
the Pittsburgh Public Schools. The project has developed a number of
strategies in pursuit of this goal. These include:
- Internal Requests for Proposals. This mechanism has
been used to select new project sites each year. It assures a buy-in on
the part of participating teachers, principals and staff. It assures that
equipment placed at school sites will be effectively used. And it
facilitates the process of introducing new users to the technology and
resources of the Internet, since sites which elect to participate in the
annual competitions must develop enough expertise to produce a creditable
submission. A description of this process with positions on equity,
teacher buy-in and documents relating to this process are provided
online.
- System Administration and Networking Courses.
The project is developing courses of instruction for school support
staff in the operation of CK:P servers and networks.
Technical documentation is available
online
.
- Technical Working Groups.
There exist three working groups whose goal is to investigate and put
into place the technical infrastructure for the project to stand alone in
the Pittsburgh Public Schools. These working groups deal with:
- Feedback from the Assessment Team.
The project's assessment team is continuously gathering information
related to network usage and the application of networking resources
in the classroom. Feedback from the assessment staff provides a
useful means of gauging project performance and identifying and
attending to trouble spots as they arise.
- User Support. Online user support through a
trouble account and local newsgroups invites
users to seek out new resources and experiment with tools provided
in the CK:P environment.
