Faces of Pittsburgh:
A Note About These Photographs

Scanned image of young girl
in parklet (detail).

The majority of these pictures were taken in 1950 and 1951 by the crew of notable photographers assembled to document the transformation of Pittsburgh--the "Pittsburgh Renaissance." The images in the Slideshow are cropped details from larger photos. For the purposes of the Slideshow--that is, to dramatize the presentation and to speed uncluttered loading of images--no identifying information was provided on the screens. To obtain whatever limited documentation is available, please email the Pennsylvania Department or contact us by phone (412) 622-3154. Reasonably-priced copies of these photographs are available.
