Time is running out. Whatever fund is to be built for later
boomers to retire on must be built now. Otherwise,
the later boomers will see no choice but to demand that
future generations suffer higher and more destructive
taxes just to keep them out of poverty.

Time is not on the side of boomers. There really is not enough
time to change the system for them since a reformed system needs
many years of compounding to be effective. It may be too late
already to save them.
The "bill" will be coming due in less than 15 years.

Today, very few people have a clear understanding of the
issues that we are discussing. But soon, desperation
will take over.

Most people either tune out or don't care. It's not really a
sexy issue until you are ready to get the "check".
I don't think that the problems of this system will be addressed
in one big hit. Over the years, the system has been changed
a little bit at a time such that most people don't notice. This
is what I find rather insidious about our government. They are
not taking rights and benefits away in one fell swoop. Rather,
it's happening one brick at a time.
If only the average citizen realized what it really going on. The
fact that the government is collecting more payroll tax than is
needed to pay for the system and is spending all the excess on
other government.
It is not unreasonable to expect more tax increases in the
future, a little bit at a time. All it takes is "2.2% of payroll"
to fix the long term funding problem. I don't know what the
tax ceiling of the average American is, but in Chile the payroll
tax was 25% before they reformed their system!
This is where we are heading.
