- Contributor: MODERATOR: Bob Carlitz
This is an exciting time for those of us who have been
following the discussions on Social Security reform. In
recent weeks several bills have been introduced in Congress,
and several others are expected in the upcoming weeks.
We are fortunate to have as panelists many of the key players
behind this legislation. Confirmed at this date are
Senator Jim Bunning
Senator Judd Gregg
Representative Jim Kolbe
Representative Jerrold Nadler
Representative Earl Pomeroy
Representative Mark Sanford
Senator Rick Santorum
Representative Clay Shaw
Representative Charlie Stenholm
We have extended invitations to all legislators who have
introduced or plan to introduce legislation in this area
and hope that others will be joining the Roundtable as
it proceeds.
Our moderator for this important panel is Ron Gebhardtsbauer,
Senior Pension Fellow of the American Academy of Actuaries,
whom many of you were able to meet in the course of the
Options for Reform Roundtable, where he was an active
panelist. I'll leave it to Ron to introduce our panel
and set the agenda for the next two weeks.
Please follow the Rules of the Road posted on the home page
of the National Dialogue Web site: be brief, polite and
on-topic in your postings. Ron will be passing your
questions to the panelists and helping us to work through
the various proposals now on the table.
This Roundtable comes at a pivotal moment in this year's
discussions of Social Security reform. By participating
in this discussion you may be part of a historic phase
in the development of new policies for Social Security.
Thanks for your participation.
