PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN EPA DECISIONS

A National Dialogue convened by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Mary E. Hamel

Mary Hamel is the public participation counsel and manager for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, a position she has held for ten years. In this job she serves as an internal consultant for the department. She designs and consults on public participation processes for agency initiatives as well as providing public participation training and resources for staff and management. Previously she worked for the agency's Air Management, Hazardous Waste Management, and Superfund Programs.

Mary has been a member of the International Association for Public Participation since 1993. She serves on the association's Board of Directors and is the IAP2 secretary for 2001.

Academically, Mary holds a Masters of Science degree in Water Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin and a BS degree in Bacteriology and Molecular Biology.
