R. Gregory Bourne
Bourne co-founded two conflict resolution
programs while on the faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology,
the Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution and the
Southeast Negotiation Network. He served as executive director of
the Consortium from its inception in 1986 until 1996 when he left
Georgia Tech to direct the Center for Civic Participation and
Renewal. The Center is a non-profit organization focused on enabling
citizens, and civic leaders, to more effectively engage in civic
affairs. He is also on the Board of the Public Decisions Network,
a national network of senior public policy mediators.
Bourne has worked extensively with the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency at both headquarters and regional levels. He
has also worked for several other federal agencies during the past
twenty years, including the Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife
Service, Forest Service, Geological Survey, National Parks Service,
and the Departments of Education, Energy and Justice. He has also
assisted numerous state and local governments around the country.
Issues addressed in these projects include: regulatory reform;
pollution prevention; natural resources, ecosystem, endangered
species and nuclear waste management; environmental justice;
protection of water resources; beneficial use of dredged materials;
and siting of waste management facilities.
Internationally, Bourne has worked for the U.S. Information
Agency on democratization and natural resources management in
Kazakhstan, and consulted with visiting delegations from Asia, the
Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and former Soviet republics on
issues related to negotiation, conflict resolution and policy
making.
