PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN EPA DECISIONS

A National Dialogue convened by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and hosted by Information Renaissance
with additional support from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

Briana Bill

Bri Bill is a community involvement coordinator with the Office of Public Affairs, U.S. EPA Region 5 office in Chicago. Her current responsibilities include coordinating outreach and public involvement opportunities for residents that live near hazardous waste sites in two of the region's six state area - Wisconsin and Ohio. In carrying out the community involvement requirements within the Superfund and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) programs, Bri facilitates public meetings and open houses, organizes Community Advisory Groups, prepares written material outlining EPA activities at specific sites, conducts media outreach, and trouble-shoots community concerns associated with cleanup activities. One of her most challenging assignments has been as a member of an intergovernmental team charged with overseeing the cleanup and restoration of the 40-mile Lower Fox River and bay of Green Bay, Lake Michigan, which is contaminated with PCBs.

In addition to site-specific work, Bri is a member of U.S. EPA's Public Involvement Policy Workgroup (the host to this on-line dialogue) and is the regional contact for the Technical Outreach Services for Communities (TOSC), an EPA-funded program that provides universities grant money to provide community groups independent technical assistance.

Prior to joining U.S. EPA in 1990, Bri worked in adult education at Rutgers University. Bri holds a BS in Geology from University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a MS in Resource Development from Michigan State University.
