We definitely need to limit the amount of money any group may spend on lobbying. The amount of money spent by special interest groups advocating for the public good pales in comparison to the money spent on lobbying by industry or corporations advocating for increased profits or protection of their interests over those of individuals. Placing a limit on the amount of money that anyone can spend on lobbying and disclosure of the source of that lobbying effort would level the playing field. A couple of messages seemed to not be sure of the influence of lobbyists. This link is on a PBS report on the chemical industry that included internal documents on their motivations for lobbying that were obtained during lawsuits for personal injury cases against chemical manufacturers;
