This seems to imply that actually looking at a law or initiative's substance is unnecessary. All that is necessary is to see who back's it. Of course that also would imply that the world is neatly divided into good and bad guys. Just like paranoids can have real enemies, those whose positions and interest seeking I usually disagree with can have a legitimate and justified case.

In California you can go to the Secretary of State's web site and see who contributes to initiative campaigns. I do and just recently requested that they improve the tools available to parse the data. Now one may need additional help to find out who "Patriotic Citizens for Mothers and Children" actually is. But it does seem that their is some agreement to continue on the path to fuller disclosure.
