  • X-topic: Choice 1

We are coming to the final few hours of our time with Choice 1. Since the briefing book is our way of organizing our conversation about this very complicated issue, you might want to refer back to the briefing book to remind yourself of all of the ideas proposed by Choice 1 as well as the concerns expressed by opponents of this choice. You might also sort the messages for the past two days based on theme and review what others have said about this choice.

We want to make certain that we have fully thought through this choice before we begin defining our common themes or what we will call our common ground. Otherwise we may find that we are supporting or opposing ideas that have unintended consequences. This is the time for us to push ourselves to consider this choice from all angles and to imagine how our own ideas about this choice might affect others. Many of you have expressed a desire to see action that is in our common good. In our remaining time with this choice, let us make certain that we have fully teased out all aspects of this choice.

Are there aspects of this choice that we have not fully explored? Push yourselves to think through what might be the best and worst case scenarios for all of the ideas proposed by this choice. Is the worst-case scenario something that we can live with? What values are motivating those who support this choice? Are there actions in this choice that require us to shift our thinking or to give up something in order to get something else?

Perhaps some of those who are lurking and have not yet posted have been thinking deeply about this choice. What are you learning about this choice and what are you struggling with or concerned about?
