I agree that keeping the county or municipal health officer informed and a part of the interagency team is critical in Superfund. I have found that the local health contact is often the first person that residents call. Also, in my experience, the local health person has been invaluable in serving as a liaison between members of the community and EPA and in keeping city officials in understanding health dynamics at the site. Depending on the services that the health department provides, it is also a good place to drop off site fact sheets and documents available for public comment.
