Involve the 'citizens of tomorrow?'... yikes! How will 'we' cope with the idealization that runs rampant through young minds? How many "facts of life" will 'we' have to explain?

If our public schools were truly 'doing their job,' there'd be an 18-25 year-old voting bloc to rival the Elderly; & there'd be intergenerational dialogue.

In 1973 or so I attended a local (Oregon) public meeting of 'those concerned' with impending shoreline regulations. There were 17 people, including moderator/ facilitator, local 'weekly' reporter, a Port Commisioner, 2 county comm.s, a mill owner, some marina owners... it turned out that no one was there that didn't use (or oversee use) of a local shoreline- no one. I wrote a letter to the editor of the local weekly, encouraging folks that, if they didn't have time for this kind of planning, at least send their older children to a meeting; because the children were going to have to live with whatever plan these people came up with.

There were 80+ people at the next meeting; & both the range & depth of questioning had made a 'quantum leap' (& it wasn't all 'just a bunch of kids' either...). ^..^
