Workforce prep/Master plan
Getting this masterplan right is essential. The perceptions of Voc Ed as a second class "track" are deeply set and will take major energy to realign. School counselors are part of the key to this change. They must be trained/coached into the advocacy role of supporting this middle citizenry. In Petaluma, home of the Telecom Valley, industry cries out for these solid students who can be taught to be our most valuble workers and citizens. Adult Education must maintain the basic ed/transition to effective voc ed role. State level leadership has struggled with finding an effective voice in this effort. This has not been as much about people as positioning. The Adult Ed system has current assessment results which show an effective practice. Our work addresses in the best sense many of the concerns related to California's language population. We are able to connect, we are able to nurture, and we are guide students to next steps. Adult Education may well need efforts to realign where we are positioned in Sacramento. We most definitaly are well positioned with those adults who will not approach the stiffer feel of community colleges, or those who require "second chance" re-entry into educational system. Adult Education must have the benefit of a clear charge from the department of ed. Leadership must have the courage to confront ineffective practice as well as advocating for those programs which evidence productivity. |
