I am concerned about adult education being moved under the auspices of the community college system. Adult education provides a safety net to a population that is "at risk." The current adult education approach is supportive, flexible, responsive, and closely linked to each individual community's population and needs. It serves a clientele who are often not ready for the larger community college structure. In addition, with its linkage to the k-12 system and its facilities, I am not sure that the current system is not also the most cost-effective approach. I suspect that those who are in favor of restructuring adult education are not fully aware of the full scope of the program and its impact on local communities.
