I agree strongly with Bob's comments, as well as those pointing out the negative impact transfer of adult voational programs out of K-12 systems would have on K-12 education. I spent several hours this evening at the face-to-face discussion of the master plan at Senator Murray's hearing in my S.D. at West L.A. College in Culver City where I live. It was clear that proponents of the master plan proposal were thinking of the proposal as some kind of chain-of-command streamlining which might result in some efficiencies, with no thought to the real world consequences and little or no understanding of the real-world contributions of adult ed. We arealready doing much of the what the plan advocates for, including the most cost-effective and intensive use of material resources and physical plant, a high degree of flexibility and responsiveness to student and state needs and economic circumstances, and most important a steady and ongoing synergy with K-12 instructional programs.
