Schools' Role in Workforce Preparation
The California economy is heavily dependent upon a skilled, competent workforce to compete in the global economy. Schools face declining funding and increased pressures. In my opinion, there is a need to provide substantive and academically rigorous experiences grounded in workforce prepartation to all students. This ideally should be a thread which begins with awareness in the early grades and culminates with structured internships in high school and college. Using business resources, (equipment, expertise, volunteers) can, and experience suggests does, make the learning environment richer for the students and more successful for the schools and society. |
