Thank you Margo for your response! Margo notes that many teachers gain tenure and bide their time because they cannot get fired. I do see this in my collegues at my high school. Perhaps the CTA can agree to admit this is an issue, and participate in the solution as well.
Margo also notes that teachers should be qualified in their subject area. While we all agree on this, I assume, how often do factors outside ability to teach, i.e. coaching, affect who is hired for what position? Administrators too often salivate over a winning football coach, and how much money that coach may bring to the school, not to mention the attention and athletic prestige. Overlooked are passionate candidates who can build a winning history program. Respectfully, Brian Miller
