  • Topic: Student Learning

Standardized tests don't measure children's learning objectively. They have many flaws. A classroom teacher has much better knowledge of her students' abilities and learning.

We like to measure things in this country. Measuring things is fine. Measuring kids is not. Standardized tests really don't give adequate insight into a school and its kids. Kids learn at different rates. Standardized tests don't take that into consideration.

Using standardized tests has turned into a ranking of schools and children, which is not their intended purpose. By their very nature, half the children who take a standardized test have to score below the 50th percentile. It's a no-win situation.
