University teacher educators are required to have recent and current classroom experiences. The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing which provides the authorization to offer credential programs requires Faculty Participation in Schools by teacher education faculty. The evidence of this participation is to be provided during accreditation reviews, which occur on a five year basis. These accreditation teams include k-12 teachers and administrators, as well as unversity faculty. All credential programs are reviewed for fufillment of the expectations of current standards and relevancy to current K-12 practices. Current employers, teachers and students, as well as former students are interviewed to ascertain the extent to which the programs prepared them for the realities of K-12 teaching. Constructive feedback is provided to assist programs in continuous improvement. Receiving a decision for continued or initial ACCREDITATION signifies that the program fulfills the current standards for program quality.

In addition, university teacher preparation programs do not wait for the five year accrediation review and site visit to engage in acquiring formative feedback on program effectiveness. Annual exit interviews with graduating students ;follow-up surveys of graduates after two years ; and feedback from practitioner advisory groups assist in acquiring continuous feedback for use in program improvement.

.Thus, the review you suggest does occur.
