RE: Question 1: Technology-What's in the Plan
Ted set out the discussion issues quite well. When the Emerging Modes group met, we heard about many innovative uses of technology, and we explored some of the barriers to its use. We all know the promise of technology in the classroom and the costs inherent in keeping current with the purchase, support, and training to make technology a universal tool in all K through adult instructional programs. Perhaps, we need to not just consider technology in schools but consider its use in other public settings as well as home. Adult education programs often rely on their library and literacy partners to expand educational access points. Technology, in its ideal, offers a tool for teachers to extend instruction to computer lab, classroom, and home settings. Given that adult learners have the additional challenge of juggling home and workplace responsibilities with their educational goals, Web-based instruction offers a great venue to them. Such a supplement to instruction supports the adult education concept of "anytime, anyplace, at any pace." Although California has only begun to use teacher authoring tools for instructional purposes, the efforts so far reveal we're on the right track. I invite you to explore some of the beginnings at www.thestudyplace.org. |
