- Topic: Background
I am a 20 year veteran teacher, former administrator, and parent of two school-age children. My wife also being a veteran teacher, we are both concerned about the state of education, and the standards movement. I am in favor of standardized testing, but am concerned that the public only sees a "one time snap shot" of onbjectively gathered data, such as SAT9, CAT, CTBS, and/or API numbers. I am anxious to see California begin collecting, analyzing, and publishing testing data on a more long-term basis, so that growth, or lack thereof, can be seen, recognized and understood. William Sanders' work with the Tennesse Value Added Assessment program would be an excellent model from which to learn.
