How I heard about Network Democracy:

I was informed of this by Sherry Macaul, associate professor Dept. of Curriculum & Instruction, University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with whom I have worked on several school-agency-university efforts.

My experience in this area:

My background includes 13 years as a newspaper reporter and 17 years as a public information officer for the Department of Natural Resources during which time I have worked with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to try to bring electronic communication to rural school classrooms. My 18-county West-Central Region of Wisconsin includes both urban and rural areas served by both cooperative telephone and cable firms, private industry providers and, in one county, an experimental REA provider.

What I hope to learn:

I hope to learn more about the Telecommunication Act with special relevance for how teachers and children in rural communities can avoid being the have-nots in the information age. I would hope that I can learn how better to work with teachers and children to provide information they need.
