How I heard about Network Democracy:

Working with the NEA, I was told about this by one of our staff members.

My experience in this area:

I'm a member of my state's (Connecticut) Legislative Task Force on Educational Telecommunications and work very closely with the Connecticut Education Association's Executive Director, Dr. John Yrchik. Dr. Yrchik testified before the FCC in Washington at their hearings last spring. You should contact Dr. Yrchik at JohnY@CEA.ORG and see if he will participate.

What I hope to learn:

Schools are investing in hardware, software, professional development for their staff members, and wiring initiatives such as NetDay. With all of these components, they are now FORCED to deal with the economics of telecommunication "connections." In my state (Connecticut) modem phone lines to classrooms costs are THE SAME as a business line - almost TWICE the cost of home rates. If we are truly to bring the world to classrooms using telecommunications, we have to find a way to do it at a reasonable cost.
