Organization: Worcester Public Library

City and State: Worcester, Ma

Area of Employment: library

How I heard about Network Democracy:

several listservs

My experience in this area:

I am a reference supervisor in a public library which acts as headquarters library for 72 towns in central Ma. We also belong to several consortia and use CARL via the CWMARS network, a multi-type system. My specific functional responsibilities include traditional online, Internet, and telephone information services. I recently attended the Digital Library Learning Institute at Berkeley. We offer Internet access to the public including introductory orientations to the Internet and the www. We work with a very population that has no other access point and will not be computer owners. Obviously communications costs, availability, and capacity are critical issues. to the public

What I hope to learn:

a focussed way to be aware of the latest interpretations and issues a chance to present the needs of our library, our patrons, as well as universal needs a way to advance the role of libraries and librarians in the information fields
