My experience in this area:

I recently joined the California Department of Education's K-12 Network Planning Unit as an Associate Information Systems Analyst. My prior experience has solely been in the retail industry where I was responsible for applications programming projects and systems administration in a distributed environment. Although I have no professional experience within the educational community, I feel that my 2 children who are not yet school age, are providing me with all the incentive to learn and do all that I can to support improvements within our educational system. I want to carry out our K-12 Network Planning Unit's Mission Statement which is to "Identify, quantify and support the evolution of promising new communications technologies into educational programs to enhance teaching and learning".

What I hope to learn:

I hope to learn how other states are planning to support their schools, libraries and rural health care providers so as to maximize the intended benefits offered in the Telecommunications Act of 1996. I hope to learn how our schools can prepare themselves now to better position themselves to benefit from the Universal Services fund as soon as it is available.
