I want to say how much I've enjoyed all the comments over the weeks, and the opportunity to express myself too. I hope we can walk away positively from the experience. I don't want to see resignation in the face of the seemingly unsurmountable large structures and powers in front of us. I truly believe that new network infrastructures, led by schools and communities, will bring forth the types of solutions we are searching for. There is an interesting conference coming up in the D.C. area that I just became aware of called "The First 100 Feet". They are trying to turn around the "problems" of the last mile issues into an "opportunity" for new solutions that go beyond traditional technology participants and networks. I urge you to check out: http://ksgwww.harvard.edu/iip/first.html I wish I could attend, but our Universal Service proceedings at the SC PSC start on the 28th of October. Become aware of the new technologies that are available. Organize around a core of people that understand and appreciate the alternatives. Make it a community issue. Find a public interest hook that brings in oversight and understanding from the parents, and hope for the best. I still see a palatable future if enough common sense is applied.
