Dear President Brown:

East Liberty Development, Inc. (ELDI) has been a member of the I-Net Working Group to ensure that all residents of East Liberty and the City as a whole have access to the Internet.   We want to be part of the development of an infrastructure that will drive the creation of new collaborations that will benefit all sectors of Pittsburgh.

We support two critical elements:

 1)  Free cable modems and related services (including Internet access) for 100 community groups
 2)  An Extendable Institutional Network (I-Net) to 140 City, School District, library and museum buildings, with the capability to extend to nearby community sites

Access to the Internet for all community residents, no matter what their income level, is key to creating a community that is part of the information age.  No community should be left behind because of limited access and resources.  This Network could be an important part of creating a technology environment that will raise the skill and knowledge levels of all residents.

ELDI will be a participant in a meeting on April 29th at the Hill House to discuss the proposal and to make this vision a reality.  We look forward to working with you on this initiative.

Sincerely,

Maelene J. Myers
Executive Director
