Mr. Clyde Wright:
South Hills High School -- Dedication

Dedication of New Structure Attended by Hundreds of Persons.
Gazette Times, 12 December 1917.
The new South Hills High School was formally thrown open to visitors last night. The ceremonies included addresses by City Superintendent of Schools William M. Davidson, County Superintendent Samuel Hamilton, Principal H. E. Winner, and Superintendent of Buildings C. L. Wooldridge and a student-provided program of vocal and instrumental music. Students acted as ushers. Several hundred persons attended.
The exercises were in the nature of a dedication of one-third of the structure planned, this partially completed building having been opened for the reception of students last spring.

To Rival Schenley High School. The high school building when completed will occupy the entire block bounded by Ruth, Eureka and Harwood streets and Secane avenue, and will equal and in some respects be superior to the Schenley High, Superintendent Wooldridge told the audience which filled the gymnasium of the building.
Mrs. Alice M. Carmalt of the Board of Public Education, who presided, spoke both as a resident of the South Hills and as a member of the board.
Superintendent Wooldridge, under whose direction the completed wing was put up, presented the "key" to the building to the senior class of the future, through Francis Barnes, member of the class of 1918.

Welcomed by Superintendents. County Superintendent Hamilton, for the county, and City Superintendent Davidson, for the city, welcomed the students into the "growing company of Pittsburgh high school students," Dr. Davidson delivering a specially prepared greeting which the South High students arranged in advance to preserve.
Principal Winner of the South Hills High School told of the school's plans to serve the rapidly growing South Hills. The Rev. Dr. C. S. McClelland, pastor of the Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Dr. W. A. Curfman, pastor of the Mt. Washington Methodist Protestant Church, opened and closed the exercises with prayer.
Featuring the student numbers was an original composition, "Lovely Night," by Alice Kilroy, class of 1918, sung by the girls' chorus. Instrumental numbers were given by the South Hills High Orchestra, Bertha Baker conductor.
The completed portion of the South Hills High School dedicated last night is the second high school built and opened by the new board, the other being the Schenley High.
