The Community of Learners project is a collaboration between four partners:
Bowdoin College, Curtis Memorial Library, Brunswick Schools, and Maine State
Administrative District #75 Schools. This collaboration covers five towns:
Brunswick, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, the Harpswell Islands, and Topsham. The
project has built a network backbone using fiber optics. Our backbone
provider is Casco Cable Television. Staff development is provided to all
users including community members. The services on the network are evolving
as we assess the needs of the users.

At the end of 1996 we extended our collaboration to include the Bath
Schools. We are currently working with a number of community groups to have
other collaborations - the businesses in the community, the municipalities,
the Navy Base and others. These collaborations take time to build and each
has different needs.

We are trying to look as broadly as possible at all of the collaborations
that could support the network. We are continually looking at the services
that could be provided in order to meet the needs of each collaboration but
yet provide a cost-effective network. These collaborations will provide the
financial backbone for the network when the grant is finished.
