- To Open WS_FTP...
- From a Windows 95
PC, go to the "Start" button, the go to
"Programs," then select "Internet
Clients," and finally, "WS_FTP"
- From a Windows
3.11 PC, double-click on the
"Communications" program group in the Program
Manager, then double-click on "WS_FTP"
- To Create a Session
Profile...
- Once the Session
Profile screen opens up, click on the New
button
- Type in what you
want to name your profile in the Profile
Name field
- Type in your full
server address in the Host Name
field (i.e.: cats1.admin.pps.pgh.pa.us)
- Type in your
username in the User ID and Account
fields
- Now, click on the
"Save" button. Saving your profile with
the Password field blank will cause
the program to ask you for your password each
time you wish to use FTP on your server or access
your home directory on your account. Filling in
the Password field with your
password and then saving will cause the
program to automatically log you on to your account
without asking for a password.
- If you want the
program to start in a specific directory on your
hard/floppy disk, and/or on your account, type in
the complete paths in the Remote Host
and Local PC fields. For example,
if you have a directory on your hard disk called
"files" that you want to start in when
you use ws_FTP, then type in:
"c:\files" in the Local PC
field. If you want to start in a directory called
"www" on your home directory on your
server (and your username is "johndoe"),
then type in: "~johndoe/www" in the Remote
Host field. Click on the
"Save" button to save your changes.
- Congratulations!
You have now created a Profile Session that you
can use to connect to your server-based home
directory and transfer files between your PC and
your account.
- To Connect to Your Account
Using a Session Profile...
- To connect to your
account's home directory, select the appropriate Session
Profile from the Profile Name field,
type in your password in the appropriate field
(if it is not already filled), and click on the
OK button to connect
- To Transer Files Between
Your Home Directory and PC...
- Find and
select the files you want to copy by
single-clicking it with the left mouse button
- Files
on your PC are listed in the left
pane
- Files
on your remote account are listed
in the right pane
- To move
"up" a directory, double-click
on ".."
- You can
hold down the <CTRL> button while
clicking on files to select multiple files at
a time that are not listed
consecutively
- You can
hold down the <SHIFT> button while
scrolling down the list to select files that are
listed consecutively
- Once a
file(s) is selected, click on the arrow
pointing left to transfer that
file(s) from server account to your PC,
or, click on the arrow pointing to the right
to transfer a file(s) from your PC to
your server account
- To Logoff and Exit
ws_FTP...
- Click on the
"Close" button, then the
"Exit" button
- "Close"
will terminate the connection between
your PC and the server you are connected
to
- "Exit"
will close the program
