II-G. Dissemination

Online Services. This is the fundamental mechanism that CK:P uses both for internal dissemination in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and external dissemination to other schools on the Internet. There is a project gopher gopher.ckp.edu which contains summaries of all project activities and a World Wide Web server http://ckp.edu/home.html which contains our developing graphical and multi-media resources. Of particular value to other school districts are our lists of Internet resources across the curriculum, the full text of previous grant proposals, and materials related to our internal request for proposals and other process elements of CK:P .

Publications. This category includes both internal reports, which are disseminated more widely through the project gopher mentioned above, formal articles, which are being released in a series of papers, and a newsletter which is distributed in printed form. Present papers include a project history with a timeline linking CK:P to other milestones in school networking and a technical summary of connectivity options for Metropolitan Area Networks. The latter paper is meant for an audience of technical support staff in school districts nationally and brings together information not available in any other source with which we are familiar. In preparation are articles on Local Area Networks, our model for internal competitions to stimulate the adoption of new technology, and the first results of our assessment studies.

Conference Presentations. The educational, technical and assessment staff are all regular participants in conferences nationally, giving presentations of the work of CK:P . Recent examples include:

Demonstrations. The architecture that we have developed for LAN and MAN connectivity provides an environment of interest to school districts across the country. We have demonstrated this type of connectivity at many educational conferences and workshops. A few examples include:
