Issues of Scaling
Often the human infrastructure of an organization is overlooked. The
best curriculum, technology and facilities will not be effective without
teachers that are empowered. As one attempts to scale successful
classroom pilots, there must exist a strategy for scaling human expertise.
Some Things that Scale
- creating local experts
- giving teachers access to the decision making process
- teaming as a vehicle for both support and delivery of services
- a constructivist approach to learning
- ongoing support for curricular and technical needs
- a research orientation
Some Things that Don't Scale
- how-to manuals that assume a static environment
- rote learning
- one time inservice training
- technology designed without input from the end-user
- central control of knowledge and decision making
