Allegheny Middle School Action Plan
1995-96
Support Needs:
- Monthly meetings during common planning time.
- Reps from Common Knowledge Pittsburgh at each meeting.
- Inservice/staff training as needed.
Timeline:
First report period:
- 7th and 8th grade: Distribution of a survey to determine student
interest and ability.
- Staff: Ongoing training using the one period a week of Duty Time
designated by the administration at Allegheny Middle.
Second report period:
- A small core group of students will be selected to learn the basic
components of the Internet, i.e. exploration of resources via Gopher,
WWW, Netscape. These students will be mentors in the implementation of
whole class projects.
Third report period:
- Whole class presentation using LCD on what resources are on the
Internet and how to get there.
- Set up student accounts.
Fourth report period:
- Small groups will begin to create a home page for Allegheny Middle
School which introduces the AMIGO Project.
Outcomes:
Teachers:
- The comfort level and ability to manipulate/use electronic network
should be greatly increased.
- Teachers will learn to integrate computer technology into the
curriculum.
Students:
- Students will have a general understanding of the uses of the Internet.
- Establish E-mail communication with community parnters, mentors
and/or experts.
- Students will create a home page for Allegheny.
Community Partners/Parents:
- Strong awareness of electronic networking in the school through
presentations at meetings.
- Community partners will communicate with students using E-mail.
