"Pitt's Gothic Cathedral of Learning, the 
tallest school building in the western world, rises 535 feet 
(42 stories). It was designed by architect Charles Z. Klauder 
and built between 1926 and 1937. The Cathedral houses 
the unique Nationality Classrooms, 23 authentically designed
and decorated classrooms developed and funded by the ethnic
communities in Allegheny County."(43)
"On Tuesday, November 9, [1993], the Pennsylvania Game 
Commission, the University of Pittsburgh, and the National 
Aviary officially opened a Peregrine Falcon nesting box on a 
38th floor parapet on the west side of the Cathedral. 
The nest was placed there in an effort to provide a home for 
at least two Peregrines that have been sighted 
in recent months flying near the Cathedral tower. 
It is the first such nest ever located on the Cathedral."
