North Side: East Street Valley

"The East Street Valley, a natural corridor northward from the Allegheny plain was long noted for the variety of 19th century urban architecture represented there. Plans for Interstate 279, slated to pass through the Valley, have drastically reduced its population and number of dwellings. Threatened destruction of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, a domed stone structure in the Byzantine-Romanesque style of the 1920s, greatly loved by residents, has served to rally the neighborhood to seek its preservation."
