On Wednesday, 19 February 1997, Chris Velemirovich (Microfilm/Periodicals) and Barry Chad (Pennsylvania Department) had lunch with approximately 17 million dollars.
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. As a result, Chris and Barry were fortunate to attend the Chamber-sponsored Steelers Most Valuable Player Award Luncheon honoring running back Jerome Bettis. A day or two prior to the luncheon, Mr. Bettis had signed with the Steelers organization for four years at 14 million dollars plus a nearly four million dollar signing bonus.
Chris and Barry rubbed elbows with the movers and shakers of Western Pennsylvania sports, business and politics: Kordell "Slash" Stewart (Steelers Quarterback); Mark Bruner (Steelers Tight End); Bill Cowher (Steelers Head Coach); Bill Hillgrove ("The Voice of the Steelers"); Dan Rooney (Steelers owner); Tom Donahoe (Steelers General Manager); Mike Dawida (Allegheny County Commissioner) and Larry Dunn (Chairman of the Allegheny County Commissioners).
Lunch was a tasty chicken alleutte accompanied by green beans almondine and a rich chocolate cake. The luncheon was held at the Allegheny Club, Three Rivers Stadium, North Side.
