Ranking of Environmental Pressures

Instructions for Completing the Form

Welcome | About SSV | Pressures

The "Pressures" link above displays a list of 35 environmental issues that may exert pressure on the natural surroundings, living conditions and economic well-being of Silicon Valley. These pressures may be either positive or negative. Please go through the list and click on the buttons at the left to indicate how you see each item:

  • Do More. I see this pressure as a significant threat or a significant opportunity to address a threat. New policies and actions should be developed by governments, businesses and others, and significant additional resources should be allocated.
    • Threat: current policies and actions are insufficient to address this pressure.
    • Opportunity: new policies and actions are needed to take advantage of this opportunity.
  • Watch. I think this pressure poses a potential problem, or current understanding is inadequate. This could become serious, so governments and businesses should apply sufficient resources to monitor it carefully.
  • Maintain. I believe this pressure is safely under control. Recent trends have been positive and are expected to continue in the future. Current government and business policies are addressing the pressure, and a strategy of continual improvement within current resources should be pursued.
  • Don't Know. I don't have enough information to form an opinion.

When you are finished going through the list, you may add any comments you have on individual pressures or the process as a whole. Then you should click on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the form to have your results recorded in the project database.
