Vicki L. Barber, Ed.D.

Dr. Vicki L. Barber has been a resident of El Dorado County for 21 years. She has been with the El Dorado County Office of Education for 18 years, and was elected as El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools in 1994. She is committed to serving clients with respect, responsiveness, and resourcefulness, and is keenly aware of the fiscal restraints within which education must work.

Dr. Barber is known throughout California as an expert in special education. She testified before a United States Congress Subcommittee in March, 1996 on the critical issue of reauthorization of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and was asked to join the California delegation lobbying Congress for more education funds in 1999 and 2000. She has served as president of CCSESA (California County Superintendents Educational Services Association). In addition, Dr. Barber has taken a statewide leadership role on the Public Schools Accountability Act Advisory Committee. She is extensively involved in many organizations and community service agencies, such as Kiwanis and the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Barber is a member of the Children and Families Commission of El Dorado County. She also serves on the Board of Directors for El Dorado County JOB ONE, El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Forum, Valley Vision, and Western Slope Boys & Girls Club. She has previously served on the Marshall Hospital Board of Directors.
