Your very wise words offer real encouragement to those of us who have devoted much of our life's energy to increasing civic responsibility and participation.While doing research for my Masters' dissertation, I discovered that a person's sense of political efficacy peaks about the time (s)he is in the 5th grade.
As a retired teacher, I can say with conviction that this aspect of social studies receives far too little emphasis in most of our schools.
