A Good Start

I think discussions such as this are a good start. Too often, legislation is introduced without a thorough discussion among the constituency. One of my fears is that Congress will try to solve all the problems with a single piece of legislation, part of which will probably be found unconstitutional, and depending on what type of language is in the bill, the entire measure being discarded.

Although my views have not changed significantly as a result of this discussion, I do think several novel ideas have been put forth. Perhaps if we looked at the fixing process as a series of experimental steps, it would appear less intimidating to politicians who fear they will not be able to effectively campaign.

Another fear of mine is people giving up hope of changing things.
Too often we feel intimidated by the complexity of situations such as this, even to the point of paralysis. Even if we can't fix the entire process in one sitting, let us at least start with small measures of probable success.
