Margaret Holt writes: The solution? Leave it wide open (disclosure and nothing else) and let the pieces fall where they may. Will there be corruption? Yes. Do we have corruption now? Yes. Will there be inordinate amounts of money from wealthy people contributed to candidates? Yes. That is happening now, and it will continue to happen. Instead, could we have a "mad as hell" attitude about people being unethical and immoral and not acting for the good of our country who act instead on their own self-intersts?

I think people have a "mad as hell" attitude now but instead of making them act - they have turned off. We will never eliminate corruption but at least, with meaningful CFR (disclosure, caps, etc.) it will be illegal and if the person gets caught, there will not only be people "mad as Hell", there will be legal repercussions. If influence buying is legal, it is considered condoned. If it is not legal (condoned), there will be less abuse of the system.

I can't see that giving up is an option - we have to fight continuously to make things better - not just for us but also for our children. As those that pervert the present system learn to abuse the reformed one, then we start the fight again. It doesn't mean that what we do now is wasted effort - it just means that continued vigilence is the only way to keep the "bad guys" at bay.
