Introduction Questions

I live in California and cannot get to participate in the on-line discussion until late in the day - after most of you have already posted comments.  I volunteered to participate in this project because I have concerns about the way we finance campaigns. Many messages have discussed voter apathy. When voters are not engaged the special interests gain control.  Money is just one way to control the election. 

I considered running for local office in my small city but the thought of having to raise tens of thousands of dollars was a real deterrent. However, that amount pales when compared with state and national elective office. CFR is a hot topic - it has been one of my interests for about 10 years, and we have not gotten far in solving the problem in all those years.  Let's hope we can make some progress now.
