The National Teachers Hall of Fame is the only group that selects teachers for inclusion after a lifetime of successful work. It is not political and not limited to a certain number per state. As such, the members have one major area in common and that is a multitude of experiences and an education rich in diversity. The best teachers are those who bring to the table the ability to help students make connections....SAT scores, GPA percentages, and GRE results are simply not indicators of anything that relates to good teaching. Interestingly, the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, a group that simply can not produce any proof that the hoops it wants teachers to jump through for certification, does not take diversity or even content as serious indicators of teaching success. No wonder it is under attack for failing to produce results.
