Re: CAMP Summary: Professional Personnel Development
For me, as a retired teacher after 35 years, 28 of those at the high school level, now substituting mainly at the elementary level, I found this discussion/summary the most interesting and pertinent. Yes, by all means use retired teachers as mentors, but do pay them a stipend, however small, that indicates how much their time in the classroom is valued. Also, as someone who organized Seminars for Advanced Placement Teachers at Stanford University for 19 years, insist that school districts support their teachers in summer professional growth programs. Of the thousand who attended these valuable training programs over the years, about half had to pay everything out of pocket and probably never get reimbursed. Michele Shockey |
